WHAT IS SMILE DESIGN AND COSMETIC DENTISTRY?

Simply put, Smile Design and Cosmetic Dentistry is all about us giving you a confident smile that you can be proud of! Whether you have gaps in your teeth, a chipped tooth, your teeth are a bit yellow or they’re not well aligned, we can help you solve any cosmetic woes with our fantastic team and amazing award-winning dentist!

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN SMILE DESIGN?

It all starts with a Smile Design consultation where Dr Maher inspects each individual tooth and discusses with you any goals or woes you may have. He will then go through all your options with you to ensure you the best possible outcome is achieved, taking into account any timeframe or budgetary constraints.

Dr Maher and the team will then formulate the best plan of attack to make sure you leave us with a smile you can’t wait to show off!

There are a lot of procedures we offer that will help you achieve your goals. They include Teeth Whitening, Composite Fillings and Restorations, cosmetic contouring, dental implants, porcelain bridges, crowns and veneers, orthodontics (braces and Invisalign) and more!

Teeth Whitening is a completely non-invasive procedure that is simple, safe and most importantly effective in improving the appearance of your smile. We have a number of teeth whitening options available which can drastically improve the shade of your teeth.

Braces and Invisalign are both used to straighten your teeth. Both are very effective however depending on your circumstances, one may be better than the other. Braces are more visible however they can be better with more severe misalignments. Braces also don’t need to be adjusted as often! Invisalign is a clear aligner that is almost invisible in some cases, and sometimes provide faster results than traditional braces. Invisalign is often more costly and isn’t always the right answer. A consultation with Dr Maher will help you determine the best possible solution for your needs.

A Dental Veneer is used to cover the front surface of your teeth, improving its appearance. Dental veneers are a thin shell of porcelain that is perfectly shaped to suit your mouth, the teeth around it and your facial structure. They are used to help achieve a more uniform appearance across all your teeth and disguises any damaged or stained natural teeth.

Completed correctly, your dental veneers will be completely unrecognisable amongst your natural teeth. This requires expert precision and perfect colour matching. Don’t worry, Dr Maher will meticulously work until your veneers blend perfectly!

A dental crown is similar to a veneer but it covers the entire tooth. They are often more colloquially called Dental Caps. Dental crowns not only improves the appearance of a tooth but also strengthens it. This is suitable for damaged teeth that may need more support. Dental crowns are often used to protect weak teeth from fracturing or further damage, cover a dental implant or root canal, or help attach a bridge. Dental crowns also restore the usefulness of your teeth so you can eat all your favourite foods!

A correctly fitted dental crown will last a long time and can blend in perfectly with your other teeth. In some circumstances we may recommend a stronger alloy crown over a more aesthetically pleasing porcelain one however this discussion will be had with you in great detail should the decision be made. A hybrid dental crown may also be used!

Dental Implants are most commonly used to replace a tooth. Dental implants can be stronger than your natural teeth and should blend in perfectly with your other teeth. Dental implants also help you feel more natural again, restoring your bite allowing you to eat your favourite foods again and depending on the location of the missing tooth, help you speak more naturally.

It is important to replace a missing tooth. This is not just for a perfect smile that you can be proud of, but for the health of the adjoining teeth. Without the support of a tooth, your teeth may begin to shift causing issues with alignment and strength. You are also at greater risk of gum disease. Not all missing teeth may cause these issues so let us assess your overall oral health and provide you the best advice and tell you whether dental implants are a suitable option.

Dental bridges are used when you are missing a tooth (or more than one tooth). Gaps left by missing teeth are used to replace the missing tooth and span the space where teeth are missing. A missing tooth can cause many other dental problems as the teeth surrounding the area is missing.

Dental bridges are cemented to the adjoining teeth. The adjoining teeth may either be your natural teeth or an implant and will serve as the anchors for your new bridge. As with dental crowns, the choice of material for dental bridges is an important decision. The best material will differ based on the location of the bridge and your specific circumstances. This will be carefully considered!

Cosmetic Dentistry should be viewed holistically for the best possible outcome. We suggest a Smile Design consultation so that Dr Maher and the team can meticulously review your current situation and provide you advice that is tailored to you. From there, we can ensure you have an amazing experience with us and have you leaving our dental office smiling confidently!
