WHAT IS A SCALE AND CLEAN?
A Scale and Clean removes all that pesky tartar and stubborn plaque that brushing and flossing alone can’t remove. Left to build up, tartar can cause sensitivity, cavities, gum recession, gingivitis and periodontitis gum disease.
It is really important that your dentist checks your teeth regularly and performs a scale and clean when required to remove this build-up and ultimately avoid further problems. This build-up can only be removed safely by your dentist.
WHY DO I NEED A SCALE AND CLEAN?
We all hope that regular brushing and flossing will prevent plaque and tartar build-up which leads to cavities and other long-term issues. While regular brushing and flossing does help prevent the bulk of build-up, often we miss little areas that slowly build up over time. This is very common and normal as it’s difficult to see the insides of your own mouth! Eventually, this build-up can no longer be removed regardless of the amount of brushing you do!
Your dentist will be able to identify these issues, clean the affected area and then provide you tips on how to keep the area clean. Most importantly, by doing a scale and clean and removing this build-up earlier, you’ll avoid potentially painful and damaging cavities, gingivitis, gum disease (periodontitis) and more!
