What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is an infection of the gums caused by bacteria in plaque buildup that affects the surrounding tissues.

Gingivitis is early stage gum disease which can be managed with regular dental cleanings. In contrast, periodontitis is a more advanced form of gum disease which must be addressed with periodontal deep cleaning.

Why is Gum Health Important?

Good gum health is the foundation of good oral health as your gums support your teeth and protect the underlying bone.

Healthy gums help prevent gum disease, which can lead to bleeding, bad breath, tooth loss, and even affect overall health.

Do I need a Periodontal Deep Clean?

The most reliable way to determine if you need advanced periodontal care is through a professional oral examination.

If our initial gum analysis finds deep gum pockets and X-rays indicate bone loss around your teeth, this is a sign you are suffering from periodontitis and would benefit from a periodontal deep clean.

If you suspect you may need a periodontal deep clean, or haven't had an oral assessment done in 6-months.
