Benefits of Take-Home Whitening

Ideal for those looking for a great outcome, and affordable on-going treatment

Take-Home Whitening

Take-home whitening gives the most reliable results due to the extended time the gel is in contact with the teeth

There is less sensitivity compared to in-chair treatments due to the lower concentration of the whitening agent

The custom-made tray ensures a more comfortable experience and more even result compared to over the counter options.

Take home-whitening is the most affordable professional whitening option at $500 for the initial treatment. The whitening tray can also be reused for life, with additional gel retailing at around only $50-60 a syringe.

Ideal for those looking for a great outcome, and affordable on-going treatment

Benefits of Combination Whitening

Ideal for those looking for a the brightest smile possible

Combination Whitening

The teeth are immediately whiter with the in-chair portion of the treatment.

The teeth can be whitened long-term with the take-home kit, giving fantastic results well after the initial in-chair session.

The combination of in-chair and take-home whitening allows for more control over the level of sensitivity and the final result.

For those looking for the brightest smile possible, combination whitening offers the best approach due to the immediate effects of the in-chair treatment, and the ongoing effects of take-home whitening.

Teeth Whitening FAQs

In-chair: Offers immediate results in one visit using high-strength whitening gel

Take-home: Involves using custom trays and gel at home over 1–2 weeks for a more gradual, but more reliable result.

Combination Whitening: Utilises both in-chair and take-home treatments for the best overall Results

Our professional whitening treatments use hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide as the main active ingredient.

Hydrogen peroxide is effective on surface stains and is the most common active for the in-chair and take-home treatments used for most patients.

Carbamide peroxide works on deeper stains and is used in overnight at-home treatments for select patients who need a gentler, more gradual approach.

While in-chair whitening uses a stronger solution than take-home whitening, it is a one-off application as opposed to a repeated application. Repeated applications are what allow peroxides to work more effectively as the gel needs sustained contact with the teeth to break down stains fully.

Therefore, in our clinical experience, a lower-concentration solution of 9.5% hydrogen peroxide gel on the teeth for 9-14 hours (over the course of a 2 week at-home treatment) gives reliably whiter results than a 35% hydrogen peroxide treatment for 60-90 minutes. The best results, however, can be achieved with the use of both.

Whitening results can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, depending on your lifestyle habits (like drinking coffee, tea, red wine, or smoking) and how well you maintain your oral hygiene. Regular touch-ups with take-home trays can help prolong results.

Some patients experience temporary sensitivity during or after whitening, especially with in-chair treatments. This usually resolves within 24-48 hours. We offer desensitising agents and tailored protocols to minimise discomfort.

Take-home whitening is preferred for patients who are concerned about sensitivity as you can take the treatment at your own pace to maximise your comfort.

Yes; when performed under the supervision of a dental professional, both in-chair and take-home whitening are safe and effective. Our dentists take great care with the clinical strength whitening agents and assess your oral health beforehand to ensure whitening is suitable for you.

Results vary based on the natural shade of your teeth and the type of staining present. Most patients see a noticeable improvement of 2-8 shades, especially when in-chair and take-home options are combined.

Whitening only affects natural tooth enamel. It will not change the colour of porcelain crowns, veneers, or composite fillings (although the surrounding natural teeth will lighten).

Most adults are good candidates, but we always recommend a dental check-up first to rule out active decay, gum disease, or existing restorations that might affect the results.

Whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, simply as a precaution. We suggest postponing treatment until after this period.

Over-the-counter products are legally limited to a maximum of 6% hydrogen peroxide or 18% carbamide peroxide. 6% hydrogen peroxide and 18% carbamide peroxide have been clinically proven to be the minimal required strengths to have any whitening effect on the teeth.

The whitening agents available through our professional treatments offer concentrations between 50% to 480% stronger than over-the-counter options. Resultantly, you can also expect far superior results with our treatments compared to over-the-counter options.

Lights in whitening treatments help speed up peroxide breakdown for faster results. While most over-the-counter lights are too weak to be effective, our clinical strength Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed Teeth Whitening LED Accelerator is designed to actually enhance whitening, not just look the part.
